04/29/2021

The Elder Scrolls Online: Console Enhanced (arriving June 8) brings a host of improvements to the game’s performance and fidelity on new-generation consoles, but it also allows you to tailor your experience based on your preferences.

Console Enhanced Modes

Optimized for Xbox Series X|S and PlayStation 5, Console Enhanced brings massive improvements to reflections, textures, draw distance, shadows, depth of field, and more while allowing you to choose between Fidelity and Performance modes.

These two options allow you dictate whether you’d like the game to emphasize frame rate or visuals as you play, and you can switch between the two options at any time from your Options menus.

Choose between Fidelity and Performance Modes

Based on your preference, each mode has different settings enabled, so check out the key differences between both Fidelity and Performance Modes below.

Fidelity Mode

Fidelity Mode uses the power of your new-generation consoles to ensure the game has never looked better on Xbox or PlayStation machines. Based on your console, this mode enables the following:

Xbox Series X & PlayStation 5

  • Native 4k resolution
  • 30 FPS
  • Shadow settings at Ultra
  • Texture settings at High
  • Increased View Distance
  • Ambient Occlusion with LSAO and SSGI
  • Antialiasing with TAA
  • Planar Reflections at Medium
  • Circular Bokeh Depth of Field

Xbox Series S

  • Native 1440p resolution
  • 30 FPS
  • Shadow settings at Ultra
  • Texture settings at High
  • Increased View Distance
  • Ambient Occlusion with LSAO and SSGI
  • Antialiasing with TAA
  • Planar Reflections at Medium
  • Circular Bokeh Depth of Field

When running in Fidelity mode, the only difference between the Xbox Series S and the Series X and PS5 is the resolution.

Performance Mode

Performance Mode allows you to run the game at a crisp 60 FPS for the first time ever on Xbox or PlayStation machines. Based on your console, this mode enables the following:

Xbox Series X & PlayStation 5

  • Native 1440p resolution
  • 60 FPS
  • Shadow settings at Ultra
  • Texture settings at High
  • Increased View Distance
  • Ambient Occlusion with LSAO and SSGI
  • Antialiasing with TAA
  • Planar Reflections at Medium
  • Circular Bokeh Depth of Field

Xbox Series S

  • Native 1080p resolution
  • 60 FPS
  • Shadow settings at Medium
  • Texture settings at High
  • Standard View Distance
  • Ambient Occlusion with SSAO
  • Antialiasing with TAA
  • Planar Reflections turned off
  • Simple Depth of Field

Note that on the Series S, some additional visual settings were lowered to ensure a seamless experience at 60 FPS. In addition, when running in Performance Mode, the boost to reflections might vary on all platforms in water-heavy zones (such as Murkmire) or in areas where performance is most valued (such as in Cyrodiil or Trials).
